When Your Loved Ones Want to Visit.

Our labor and delivery staff support the involvement of family in the birthing process, and recognize the importance of family and friends' support during the labor and delivery process, as well as for the recovery of mother and child.

To help these interactions be as joyous and safe as possible, our policy is as follows:

  1. Visitors will be asked to check in at the nurse's station prior to entering a patient's room to avoid embarrassment to patient and/or visitor. Visitors will be required to state the patient's first and last name before being allowed into the patient's room.
  2. It is preferable that no more than five visitors be allowed in the LDR at any one time throughout the labor and delivery period. The number of visitors allowed is a joint decision between the mother and the healthcare team.
  3. Additional visitors may wait in the Family Lounge and rotate visits with the patient.
  4. Visitation is permitted on a 24-hour a day basis for laboring patients unless otherwise directed by the RN or physician.
  5. Siblings are permitted in the LDR, but each child must have another adult other than the mother's main support person in attendance to supervise their care.
  6. If the sibling disrupts the safe delivery of care to the mother, the supervising adult will be asked to remove the child from the patient's room.
  7. Antepartum patients may have visitors from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Siblings are permitted to visit but must have a supervising adult with them at all times. Visitors are also limited to five at a time as patient's status permits. The main support person may remain with the patient 24 hours/day.
  8. The family is responsible for informing the nurse if they are exhibiting symptoms of infection or have been exposed to any communicable diseases. The family member who is ill will be asked not to visit.
  9. Visitors are to remain either in the patient's room or the Family Lounge.
  10. LDR staff will not provide information about other patients to visitors.
  11. Unruly visitors who will not cooperate with LDR staff will be asked to leave. If they refuse to leave, Security will be notified.
  12. Visitors may eat in the Family Lounge, but are asked to clean up after themselves. Eating in the LDR by visitors is allowed on a case by case basis.
  13. The LDR staff supports the hospital's No Smoking Policy.
  14. L&D nurses may alter the visiting regulations at their discretion based on patient safety, patient acuity, unit activity, and physician orders.
